Albanian Government Council of Ministers

The new Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Hospital is another active construction site at QSUT, which, once completed, will be integrated into the network of new, European-standard hospital facilities, equipped with the latest technologies and modern amenities.
Today, the Prime Minister continued his on-site inspection and was briefed on the project, which covers an area of 4,000 square meters and is organized across four floors.

“We are here at the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Hospital. It is one of the ongoing construction sites within QSUT, though not the only one. The building is organized across four floors. The first floor primarily hosts services for students and medical staff to enhance their skills, along with technical logistics. Meanwhile, the first floor is dedicated to vascular surgery services. On the third floor, we have the operating block, which has expanded from four operating rooms to five, creating more optimal conditions. The third floor also houses the intensive care unit, or resuscitation services, for patients requiring critical care.

The construction area covers 4,000 square meters, with an additional 500 square meters added. The hospital will have a capacity of 80 beds, with 32 beds on each service floor. The work is expected to be completed by June, and this is not just a renovation but also includes new furnishings and state-of-the-art medical equipment, which will continue to assist doctors in performing their work,” explained Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu. She also added that “Currently, work is ongoing at the psychiatric hospital, and with the 2025 budget, we will begin investment in the plastic surgery hospital as well. This is a significant investment, as both of these projects provide national-level services, serving not only patients from the city of Tirana but also those coming from the surrounding regions.”

Among other things, Minister Koçiu said, “With the completion of the psychiatric hospital this year, the start of construction at the plastic surgery hospital, and the completion of the Pediatric Hospital, the entire cycle of rehabilitations and infrastructure reconstruction at QSUT will be concluded.”
