Statement by Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection, Mira Rakacolli: 

 

As part of the daily briefing, we inform you about the coronavirus disease COVID-19 situation in the past 24 hours in Albania.

Tests were conducted on the samples of 252 suspected individuals, including 44 members of the health personnel, out of which 19 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed, respectively 11 new cases in Tirana, 1 in Kruja, 1 in Korça, one in Elbasan, 5 new cases in Kukes, including a member of the healthcare personnel.

So far, tests have been conducted on 4558 people and 494 of them have tested positive for the Covid-19.

As the coronavirus chart shows, despite a surge in the number of new confirmed cases and despite the daily fluctuation, the curve remains stable and the situation is fully under control.

A 90-year-old man from Fier passed away today morning, bringing the Covid-19-related death toll in Albania to 25. The victim had been under intensive care for 11 days and suffered from underlying health conditions including diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure.

Three more patients have recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people who have recovered after having contracted the novel coronavirus in Albania to 251.

Out of the total 39 patients at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, five are under intensive care. At the COVID 2 Hospital, nine patients are hospitalized, seven of whom are in intensive care, and four are intubated.

A total of 48 patients are currently being treated at both hospitals.

Despite an increase by 19 new cases in past 24 hours, the number of patients needing hospitalization remains stable.

The map of Covid-19 infected people expands in Tirana, Kukes, Kruja, Elbasan and Korça.

Currently, the geographical distribution of the infected patients across Albania is as follows:

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection once again urges citizens to respect the social distancing measures. High sense of responsibility is required on the part of citizens to respect the necessary distance between each other and maintain personal hygiene.

It is equally important that measures to curb the spread of the infection are fully respected within the family circle by avoiding visits to the relatives for whatever reason.
