Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Work on the reconstruction sites to rebuild private individual homes for the quake-affected families in the village of Peze, Tirana municipality, is nearing completion as newly-built, bigger, stronger and safer houses than previously are being handed over every day to local residents. Prime Minister Edi Rama today visited Peze, where some 90 families are about to start a new life in new bigger houses after losing their dwellings because of the earthquake that rattled Albania on Nov 26 last year.

Construction of Xhevdet’s new house, a local resident, is about to complete. Nestled amid a beautiful landscape, the three-bedroom new house will complete before the end of the year. “Work has progressed very well. The new house is being built on the very site of the old one amid an amazing landscape with a balcony overlooking the Erzeni valley. It is a 3 + 1 building to accommodate all three generations at home. This lot includes construction of 34 houses, while a total of 90 houses are to be rebuilt in this village,” Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj explained.

“This is a difficult period, but it will be over soon. You will move into your new house ahead of New Year’s Eve. This is for sure,” the Premier said as he met the family head, who has been given the opportunity to oversee the construction of his new house.

In the meantime, Ruzhdi Kalaja is another local resident, who welcomed the Prime Minister into the newly-built house, which is much bigger than his previous home.

“Thank you very much. Where we were, where we are now. It is unimaginable,” the housewife said, expressing gratitude especially for the special attention towards them while the new house was under construction.

“This is one of the cases, where the old house was built on a sliding soil and the new house has been built on a stable ground. Once this lot is complete, work will begin to build around 50 more houses, while the current lot will finish before the end of November. Construction of the other 50 houses will begin after New Year,” Tirana Mayor said.
