On the eve of the upcoming match of the National Football Team, Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected the conclusion of works at the stadium “Elbasan Arena”, where matches of our national team will be played.
After visiting the exterior and interior of the stadium, the Prime Minister said he was happy with the work standards, and announced that the project will transform “Elbasan Arena” in an Olympic stadium to host also international sports events.
“As you can see, we are almost ready for the match of October 11 to be played in a stadium, the first of its kind in Albania to meet all UEFA standards and, as the President of the Federation would say, even Champions League standards, as far as norms are concerned. Meanwhile, we don’t want it to be only a football stadium, but we want it to be an Olympic stadium. For this reason, works will continue immediately after the match to pave with tartan the very first runway of international standards, so that Elbasan will be able to host also international events of athletics, at least regional one and later, why not, European Championships for young people, and so on. As you can see, we want Elbasan to become an important centre of gravity, not only for football and our national team, but for sport in general.”
The reconstruction of the stadium “Elbasan Arena” is a joint investment of the Government and the Albanian Football Federation, and it is worth approximately 5.5 million Euros. The works include the reconstruction of the tribunes, the construction of all engineering networks, the reconstruction of fields, installation of electronic control system for tickets in all sectors of the stadium, installation of two LED screens in the field, the lighting system, benches in every tribune and equipment of all facilities. An important part of the project was the reconstruction of the square in front of the stadium and the road, which were freed from all the chaotic buildings in the area adjacent to the stadium.
At the conclusion of his visit to Elbasan, the Prime Minister along with the Mayor and MPs of the district inspected the progress of works carried out in this city, which are funded by the government through the Regional Development Fund.
