The Akërni drainage pumping station is another revitalized infrastructure project, ensuring the drainage of 4,600 hectares of agricultural land while also contributing to flood protection for the Vlora International Airport.
During his visit to Vlorë, Prime Minister Rama, accompanied by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Anila Denaj, stopped to closely inspect the transformation of the pumping station. “One of the most important pumping stations has been completely reconstructed. I can say that new equipment has replaced the old equipment from 50 years ago. This was an investment made in the 1960s, which posed a risk to the lives of workers who had to go and repair the equipment. It now protects nearly 5,000 hectares of agricultural land, which is cultivated, and certainly safeguards the international airport of Vlorë as well, because this is an investment with all international standards,” Minister Denaj stated.
The government’s focus is on improving irrigation infrastructure and flood protection in this region, which is vital for the country’s economic development. “This solves the serious issues we had in the past. Those problems we used to face, we no longer have them,” emphasized the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, the installation of new electro pumps has increased the capacity for water drainage. This technology makes the pumping station more efficient and cost-effective.
