Albanian Government Council of Ministers

A new service unit equipped with the most recent technology is a novelty that the State Police offers for citizens in view of its good performance for public order and peace.

The new services are grouped in the new Operational Command Room in the Police Directorate of Tirana, which was inaugurated today with the participation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the Minister of Interior Saimir Tahiri, State Police directors, employees, etc. By means of technology and a trained staff, the room coordinates in real time: the police stations with the traffic police in case of accidents, or with the services delivered by the Eagles forces in case of criminal events; real-time monitoring of police incorporated cameras; emergency calls in the Unique Emergency Number “112”, currently operating in Tirana; reports in the digital station.

The information systems installed in the Command Room enable the whole process from the call reception to the reporting of the event from patrols to be done electronically. In addition, the Room can monitor in real time the patrols location through the GPS system, part of the incorporated cameras. While in case of events, the control room is able to display on the screen in real time images coming from the incorporated cameras.

Tirana is the first capital city in the Balkans to implement the unique 112 number.

Following the example of European countries, Albania has a unified “112” emergency number, which is a regular telephone number that every citizen can use to communicate with emergency services such as police, ambulances, fire fighters and rescue teams.

Tirana Police Director Ervin Hodaj said that the new room was opened as a necessity to increase and implement new programs in the service of citizens. He explained that the novelty of the emergency number for citizens is that no phone call is lost, and citizens will get the service they need within a short time.

“The room has been thoroughly reconstructed. At the same time, is was necessary in terms of implementing some new programs. It’s the unique 112 call system, which includes the State Police, the fire fighters and the emergency unit. It is the first capital in the Balkans to implement a unique number, currently the 112 number was implemented on June 7. Calls to this number increased three times within June, compared to the regular numbers that were used before. The novelty of this number is that no call is lost. The operator picks up in 5 seconds, and the call lasts an average of 38 seconds. After this call, there is the reaction of the services. 40 thousand calls were registered in June, while in May they were only 13 thousand.”

While Minister Tahiri said that following the latest innovations that State Police has made available to citizens, Tirana becomes the first capital in the Balkans to have an integrated emergency number, after EU nations. The Minister announced that the project will continue in Durres, and later across Albania.

“This is the control operative room of Tirana and the integrated emergency number, coordinating the operators of the police stations, the traffic police operators, the operators of the Digital Station. Citizens call 112 both for the State Police and the fire fighters, medical services and for any other emergency. Practically Tirana has become the first capital in the Balkans that has an integrated emergency number after EU countries. We will continue with Durres and other cities across the country.

Meanwhile, in a very short time we will continue monitoring the call, see the behaviour of the operator, and eventually register the call from citizens.”

Prime Minister Rama considered the operative room a very effective instrument to serve citizens better. “Today I saw another testimony to the fact that the State Police is one of the most active hearths of our technological revolution and of the transformation of the new technology in a very effective instrument to serve citizens better. The more the State Police is moving in the right direction, in the direction of the vision and determination of the Minister of Interior, the more this team has the right to keep going despite everything.”
