Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Dervishi family in the village of Priske, Municipality of Tirana, who lost their home due to a powerful tremor last September, returned to their normal way of life as they move into a much better newly-built home on Sunday.

Prime Minister Edi Rama was the guest of a family of six members, who used to live in an emergency tent pitched near the old house, while today, just few months later, they have moved into a decent home that offers optimal living conditions. The government head was accompanied by the Tirana Mayor Erjon Veliaj. PM Rama handed over the keys to the house to the family head.

Thanking the government head for the new house, the family head said he was grateful for the support, whereas Tirana Mayor Veliaj noted that Dervishi family represented one of the socially most disadvantaged households that were picked by the local residents themselves as one of the families in desperate need for assistance and aid.

Speaking about the rebuilding projects, PM Edi Rama pledged that much better new homes will be constructed under the national rebuilding program in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, urging for patience and saying that everything takes its time to complete. “We are not standing idly, but the number of houses to be built is incredibly high. Not every new house will be built on the site of the old damaged home and the new homes will be built closer to each other in order to create larger communities and bring the public services closer to these communities. The process also includes geological studies, project designs and then procedures to select the implementing companies,” the Premier said.
