The post-earthquake Reconstruction Programme is giving a whole new look to the town of Laç, where work is full steam ahead all sites to rebuild hundreds of homes and multi-family apartment buildings for the quake-affected families. Construction of the town’s new central neighbourhood, a complex including 524 apartments, 37 service units, 375 parking places, a shopping centre and civil infrastructure in line with highest urban standards, is heading to completion. Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by Kurbin Mayor Majlinda Cara, inspected progress of work on this construction site.
“We are visiting here two apartment blocks, whose construction has entered a final phase. As we have already communicated with the Turkish company, the residential complex will complete by end of August. In the meantime, work to construct new school in the area is also underway. Construction of all apartments is scheduled to complete in August and the quake-affected families will then move into their new homes,” Mayor Cara said, adding that work is also underway to construct the single-family homes. According to her, 40 out of around 200 quake-affected families that have preferred the compensation grant to build their homes themselves have already been issued the construction permits. She also said that procurement and tender procedures have been launched for the remaining batch of single-family homes due to be built by Kurbin Municipality through a state budget funding.
