Another fascinating public space is springing into existence in the southern coastal city of Vlora. With the completion of the Waterfront Promenade, most commonly known as the Lungomare1, which immediately became an important tourist attraction for local and international visitors, the second phase of Lungomare Vlora Waterfront Promenade is progressing rapidly and is set to complete ahead of the next tourism season. The seafront promenade’s rehabilitation project envisages creation of a new natural beach, which will include one Olympic-size swimming pool and a smaller swimming pool for children, parking area, as well as other public services to attract as many visitors as possible and Lungomare 2 is set to become another jewel in the crown of tourist Albania.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Mayor of Vlora, Dritan Leli, visited the construction site of this difficult project in terms of execution technique. “The largest part of the work to prepare the ground and landscape the swimming pool has already completed,” Vlora Mayor Leli informed, adding that intense and quality construction work continues at the site.
“A parking lot area to accommodate a total of 160 vehicles is being built in the back part and it will also include parking spaces reserved for disabled people. The complex will also offer other public services to every visitor,” Vlora Mayor said.
A retaining wall being built along entire stretch of the new waterfront promenade, as well as steps to provide easier access to the beach, are some of the novelties of this project. The beach area has been freed from the illegal constructions. “With the illegal constructions removed, the site’s area has been doubled. What it used to be previously was as if you were entering a fake pocket,” PM Rama said.
“Although the idea was that the beach could disappear because of the platforms and the steps, what happened is that we actually have recovered a significant beach area that offers very good standards. Natural gravel loads have been deposited during the summer season, creating an additional attraction here,” Vlora Mayor noted.
Vlora Lungomare 1 project will be connected with Longomare 2 and it will end at the Tunnel’s entrance. The Waterfront Promenade project includes planting of decorative trees along the sidewalks, sport complexes for citizens and an alternated move of people who prefer to walk, cycle or ride with their vehicles.
