The government funding programs for agritourism development projects have been further expanded to include the region of Mirdite, where a growing number of local residents are investing to transform their private family homes into guesthouses and farm-based accommodation structures.

Combining stunning natural beauty, traditional heritage and a rich history, Mirdite has recently become an inviting offer to many Albanian migrants, who are returning back home to invest their savings in their hometown. Prime Minister Edi Rama visited one of these investments, where hard work and the government-funded program to support agritourism projects have helped Kole, the guesthouse’s owner, to earn a lot more in his hometown than he used to earn while working abroad.

PM Rama urged all citizens to visit the area, saying it boasts amazing natural landscape, rich traditions and history, as well as a growing number of guesthouses.

“They offer everything that makes the Albanian nature and the Mirdite tradition and history in particular very beautiful. I am very proud of the fact we have supported Kole and many other agritourism business owners and we will keep providing support so that the land of their ancestors becomes the future of all these families, the land of their ancestors becomes the future of the emigrants currently working and living abroad, so that they come back and invest their savings in these wonderful areas, where it would suffice for everyone to revive their private family homes, build accommodation structures and offer hospitality, traditional food and delicacies, smile and the area’s allegiance and promised word that defends every guest setting foot on its border and the future will be bright. One can generate a lot more profits than he would earn from ordinary work while abroad,” the Premier said.

The growing number of visitors and the introduction of the agritourism development trend have helped that such models expand throughout the country.
