Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Statement by the Minister of Justice, Etilda Gjoni:

At today’s meeting, the Council of Ministers made an important decision to determine the additional payment for all members of the re-evaluation institutions, thus allocating an additional amount of 50% of the monthly payment stipulated by law.

As it has promised that it will support the implementation of justice reform in terms of budget and infrastructure, with today’s decision the Albanian government reaffirmed its serious commitment. Government support in terms of budgeting is a constitutional and legal obligation, as well as the expression of a full will to increase payment by 50%.

Being the buildings and the infrastructure available, the structure approved and the salaries for all members of the Vetting commissions increased, the new institutions are ready to start the process since today.

The Albanian government is very much interested in starting the Vetting process as soon as possible. It took a great deal of work to design and adopt the process the first results of which are looked forward to by the citizens.

Despite the legal and financial difficulties, the government managed to provide all the necessary support for a very short period, but it is now up to the Vetting bodies to show the will and commitment to start this process.

Thank you!
