The greenhouse built by Fatos Kanaçi, a farmer in Berat district, was flooded past March, flooding his lifetime’s work in the blink of an eye. But today, he has expanded and rebuilt the greenhouse from scratch thanks to cooperation with the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency (ARDA) and thanks to the national agriculture support schemes. Prime Minister Edi Rama, visited the newly-rebuilt greenhouse on Sunday, accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Bledi Çuçi and the Director General of Agricultural and Rural Development Agency, Frida Krifca.
Lacking the financial means to revive his greenhouse, Fatos applied with ARDA and he benefited from its support schemes. “My greenhouse was completely destroyed by the 2018 floods. I am engaged in farming business for 14 years, but lacking the financial means I applied at the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency and I was announced winner under the farm subsidies scheme. Now I have built a larger and modern greenhouse,” Fatos said.
“Every individual and households involved in farming and agriculture sector are now offered fresh opportunities under the new European Union’s agricultural and rural development component. Thanks to the removal of the VAT rate on agricultural inputs, the farm subsidies and grants will turn agriculture sector into a good opportunity to export and generate sufficient income to support family,” PM Rama said.
