Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Minister of Social Welfare, Erion Veliaj, inspected the Employment Office in Durrës today at noon. The Prime Minister expressed himself concerned over the fact how it can happen that an Employment Office that has to be to the service of the citizens is located in an apartment purchased by the state at the second floor of a building found at the end of a secondary street.

While inspecting the premises of the Office, PM Rama and Minister Veliaj could see closely the unacceptable conditions in which services are delivered to Durres jobseekers and employers.

Minister Veliaj stated that the conditions of this Employment Office and the very way in which its promotion amongst the citizens has been conceived is a far cry from what an office offering employment should be. “‘No education, no employment!’ These are typically socialist realism slogans. This is not an employment offer, these are just slogans. These are advertisements for the Employment Office, which you first have to find, then read the ad promoting such Employment Office,” Veliaj said.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, on the other hand, underlined the determination to open a new Employment Office in this city as soon as possible. “In a city that is the second biggest for its economy and the ways of development for the private entrepreneurship, we urgently need to have a decent Employment Office for people who seek employment, in order to encourage positive energies and fuel hopes. This one is a disaster that should be closed as soon as possible. We need to have at once a proper Employment Office, where you have identified it should be and do it very quickly in cooperation with the business community,” Rama stressed.

Additionally, the PM mentioned that it is indispensable to identify the current vacancies and make them public for the citizens. “Let us start to collect immediately all the existing information, demands, vacancies and make them available to the young people, to the unemployed to the people who want to work and truly exploit all the current opportunities, while creating other jobs continuously and everywhere. The current vacancies should be made available to the people. Nobody can come here, nobody can find the Employment Office, let alone believe that they might find a job here,” the Prime Minister added.

The Prime Minister Edi Rama has started a tour of inspections in the subordinate agencies, beginning with the city of Shkodra on Saturday.
