A package of investment is underway in water supply infrastructure in the coastal southern city of Vlora. Three important investment projects are designed to deliver clean 24-hour water supply to several neighbourhoods and they will be followed by a final project funded by the German KfW Development Bank.
Prime Minister Rama and Vlora Mayor visited the Cold Water area, where work is already underway to construct a new water supply network. The investment’s aim is to provide 24/7, piped and treated water to all residential areas of the city.
The investment is scheduled to complete ahead of the upcoming summer tourism season. “The project will also significantly improve the water supply situation to the area along the Transballkanike road and the Çole residential neighbourhood. The investment project also entails rehabilitation of the waste and rainwater drainage system to save the area from regular flooding. The KfW-funded project will ultimately provide the 24-hour water supply to the entire city,” Vlora Mayor Dritan Leli said.
The city of Vlora has been suffering from water supply shortages and scarcity over the decades. “We should point out the fact that the city has been facing water supply shortages since my childhood,” Leli said. PM Rama also recalled that during his childhood residents in Skele area used to walk down the road in order to fetch potable water.
